Deceptions (A Work In Progress)

Jazz Conway

Finished with the first draft, which went so much faster than I expected. About four months, start to finish. Now it’s editing time. I wanted to have two novels and one nonfiction ready by May 2010. I think I’ll make it.

I’ve been writing every moment I can steal away from other demands and interests in my life. I’m now at 72,000 words, only 8000 left to go. I want to have Deceptions finished and a full edit done before I leave for the New Orleans writers’ workshop in May. Jazz is growing and changing every day. She’s so not the person she was on Page 1.

Deceptions is the title of my new novel. I’m writing Chapter 6 now. Jazz Conway, a thirty-five year old artist, is the main character who lost her husband a year ago in a car-hits-guy-on-bike accident. With her Irish ancestry, she’s a fiery catbird even in grief.
Her friends decide its time for her to live again and take her on spiritual retreats such as meditating with monks and sweating with American Indians in a sweatlodge. Having enough, Jazz decides to find her own way.
Just when she’s looking for a passion to live for, she discovers her husband kept secrets. So did one of her best friends. The book follows her mission to learn the truth about her husband which changes Jazz forever.
Oh, and there’s that guitar player from Brazil. She thinks he’s a poser and tells him so.
Deceptions. Life is full of them. What about the deceptions in your life? Care to share?
